Manohar targets BJP govt over rising fuel prices, terms it as “economically anti-people”
6/23/2020 9:25:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 23: Former Minister & President District Congress Committee (DCC) Kathua Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today lambasted and BJP government at center for rise in fuel prices for 17th consecutive day and termed it as economically anti-people.
He said daily increase in rates, since oil companies on June 7 restarted revising prices in line with costs after ending an 82-day hiatus in rate revision, has taken diesel prices to fresh highs. Petrol price too is at a two-year high. Terming the increase as “insensitive” that burnt a hole in common man’s pocket, Manohar said the hike in fuel prices came at a time when the country is facing unprecedented public health, economic and social challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and said when the entire country is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and its poor, including migrants, shopkeepers and small businessmen, were virtually penniless, the government of India was “fleecing” 130 crore Indians by insurmountably raising prices of petrol and diesel. He said instead of decreasing fuel prices Govt is continuously increasing them which is gross injustice with the masses.
The industry is already reeling under huge pressure due to the daunting impact of pandemic COVID-19, and increase in fuel prices at this juncture will make goods and services dearer and thereby severely impacting the revival process of industrial activities in the coming times he said. The Congress leader said international crude oil prices are now the lowest in the last 15 years, down to 35-38 USD per barrel, yet petrol and diesel prices are skyrocketing. The common people, the middle class, farmers, transporters and small and medium businesses are “bearing the pain” of high petro rates, he said.
