Coronil tablet: FIR against Ramdev, 4 others in Jaipur over coronavirus medicine claim
6/27/2020 2:26:44 PM
Agencies
Days after Patanjali Ayurved launched the "Coronil" medicine with the claim that it can be used for the treatment of Covid-19, a pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus, an FIR was filed in Jaipur against yoga guru Ramdev, Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna and four others. The FIR alleges that Baba Ramdev was "misleading" people by propagating Patanjali Ayurved's drug Coronil as a cure for the infection.

The launch of the drug Coronil by yoga guru Ramdev on Tuesday triggered a debate after which the Ayush Ministry sought all information on its trial and put a ban on advertising it as a drug to cure coronavirus.

The FIR was filed on Friday in Jaipur's Jyoti Nagar Police Station against Ramdev, Patanjali Ayurved MD Acharya Balkrishna, scientist Anurag Varshney, NIMS Chairman Balbir Singh Tomar and Director Anurag Tomar for allegedly indulging in misleading propagation of "Coronil" as medicine which could be used to treat the infection.

Jyoti Nagar Police Station SHO Sudhir Kumar Upadhyay confirmed the news to India Today TV and said, "Yes, an FIR has been registered against Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, Balbir Singh Tomar, Anurag Tomar and one scientist, Anurag Varshney, of Patanjali.

The FIR has been registered in the case of misleading propagation of Coronil."

Balram Jakhar, who filed the FIR, said, "FIR was filed against five people, including Ramdev for indulging in misleading propagation of Coronil." The FIR has been registered under various sections of the IPC including Section 420 (Cheating).
