BJP leaders mock PM call for physical distancing, wearing masks

Early Times Report

KATHUA, July 1: On one hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been reiterating for wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing but his own party leaders have been flouting such directives with impunity.
One such incident came to light on Wednesday, when former Deputy Chief Minister from BJP, former Forest Minister from BJP as well as incumbent Municipal Council Chairman beside other leaders felicitated the senior officials of Civil as well as Police Administration Kathua.
The physical distancing norms were thrown to dustbin as all these leaders could be found standing shoulder to shoulder with each other, while majority of them were without masks. Some of them had their masks hanging in their necks and social distancing was also not maintained at all, as per the photographs circulated on social media.
The senior party leaders were felicitating the police as well as civil officials of District Kathua for their contribution to fight the COVID-19 pandemic but they had reportedly forgotten that the administration has been successful to contain the infections only by adhering to social distancing norms as well by emphasizing on the masses to follow the health advisories.
“On one hand the COVID-19 infections as well as the deaths have been increasing across the country but the health advisories issued by the departments, which were also emphasized by the Prime Minister have been openly disregarded by his own party members”, an official said, adding that from the posturing of the BJP leaders it appeared that the COVID-19 infection has already gone from the country and everything has become a normal.
Instead of trying to gain publicity, the BJP leaders should at least listen to the appeals of Prime Minister to maintain social distancing and wearing the masks so that the infection could be contained. If the senior party leaders could openly disregard the appeals of Prime Minister, what can we expect from a common man, an official questioned ?
