Early Times Report

REASI, July 15: The usage of sub-standard material in the construction of roads in the Jammu division has been going for ages now and the latest example in this regard has come from Pouni tehsil in this district.
Reports said that the condition of a road measuring more than a kilometer connecting Sudeen Morh with Sudeen village is dilapidated one even though it was developed couple of years back. The black topping of the road has come off and ditches as well as pot-holes have come up all along the road.
Early Times visited the area in order to check the veracity of complaints received from the locals in this regard. It was found out that the road is in a bad shape and the sides of the road have also crumbled. The people of the area are facing huge problems due to the bad condition of the road and want early solution to their problems.
A group of locals including incumbent Panchayat representatives and former ones while sharing their views with Early Times said that ditches as deep as three feet have come up on the road. They blamed the Junior Engineer (JE) of Public Works Department (PWD) for the messy state of affairs of the road.
The engineer used sub-standard material in the construction of road and it was due to this reason that its condition deteriorated in no time,” said Neelam Kumari, Sarpanch.
When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer, Pawan Ghai said that since he has joined the area recently he would visit the area and check out the condition of the road. The JE said that the allegations leveled against him are baseless adding that re-tendering of the work has been proposed.
The Sarpanch demanded that Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Chib should send a team of Executive Engineer, AEE and Additional Deputy Commissioner to check the condition of road. She said that a probe should be ordered as why the re-tendering of the work on the road has to be done within two years of the development.
