JKCHCL defends transfer of Tawi Vihar Co-op School to Pvt School
7/25/2020 12:45:57 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 24: Strongly defending the decision of J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation Ltd (JKCHCL) of transferring the Cooperative School in Tawi Vihar Colony to a private school, the Chairman of the Corporation, Bashir Ahmed Mir condemned the protest held by some of residents of the colony against the same.
Mir termed the protest an unpleasant and uncalled for and condemned the protesters shouting slogans at the residence of the Managing Director of the Corporation and manhandling his wife in his absence.
He said that the school so far run by the corporation was running in losses and not in a position to give good salaries to teachers and the standard was not upto the mark. “Moreover hardly any student from the Tawi Vihar colony was studying in the school. The small strength was from adjoining areas like Majeen Ragoora etc. Therefore, the Board of Directors decided to put the school in open auction before reputed schools/parties in the field,” he said.
He added “The minimum reserve price was fixed and tenders were called vide publicity in leading newspapers and even Delhi based newspapers. Four parties came forward with their bidding and the highest bid was accepted.”
He further stated that the registered Residents Welfare Society through its elected office bearers have hailed this step as need of the colony as their wards were being sent to distant schools for want of quality education. He maintained that the land and building of the School has been transferred as it is and no land use has been changed. “Anybody having any reservations could have come to the office of the Corporation to discuss the matter but the unruly behaviour by anyone is uncalled for,” he added.
He also said that the disrespect of law abiding citizens, especially the MD of the Corporation was condemned by the Board in unequivocal terms through virtual mode. “The management had taken the elected body of the registered Residents Welfare Society into confidence,” he maintained.
