BGSBU admin seeks permission to make recruitments by outgoing VC
Introduced agenda item at eleventh hour for EC’s meeting
8/2/2020 11:28:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 2: The administration of Baba Ghulam Shah Bhadshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri has reportedly been taking several decisions in haphazard manner and in a new turn of events, a new agenda item was introduced at the eleventh hour for Executive Council (EC) meeting, which was called for some other purpose.
Sources informed Early Times that during the process of constituting the search committee for the appointment of new Vice-Chancellor of BGSBU, the Chancellor office had asked the University administration to send names of two nominee of Executive Council so that the Search Committee would be constituted.
“The Executive Council of the University called a meeting on 19th of July, during which the agenda of finalizing the names of two nominee (experts) of EC, who would not be the members of EC was discussed and two names were forwarded to Chancellor office”, sources said. Sources further said that the members of the EC were left surprised to find that another agenda item was included, according to which the EC’s permission was sought by BGSBU administration to allow Vice Chancellor to make appointments for various posts.
“The members of the EC outrightly opposed such inadvertent inclusion of the agenda item and termed it ethically incorrect for any outgoing VC to make appointments, when Search Committee is already constituted”, sources said, adding that majority of members including the Vice Chancellors of two state level Universities opposed the move and made it clear that when the Search Committee stand constituted, the VCs didn’t make appointments as it would be a liability for the next VC.
Sources further said that the members also questioned the BGSBU administration for their failure to make recruitments in last 4 years and 10 months. “It is a set precedence and norm followed by all varsities that no such recruitments are made by VC when Search Committee is constituted. Even when Mehbooba Mufti was chancellor of BGSBU, a written directive was forwarded from her office to the BGSBU VC to refrain from making any recruitment”, sources said.
Despite overall opposition of EC members, sources said, the BGSBU administration emphasized over the agenda item on which the EC members refused to give their approval but suggested the administration to send a written proposal to Chancellor office for making recruitments by outgoing VC.
Sources further said that a proposal has already been forwarded by BGSBU administration for getting the approval of Chancellor’s office. “If the Chancellor office would give the approval, the next two months would be very crucial for BGSBU administration, where there is every apprehension that some blue-eyed candidates would be appointed on several key posts”, sources said, adding that the Administration remained in hibernation for over 4 years and 10 months and didn’t made promotions as well as made appointments but now sought permission for making recruitments.
