Distt Admin struck off names of BPL ration cards holders, deprives poor of benefits
8/9/2020 10:44:30 PM
GURDAS KUMAR
EARLY TIMES REPORT

SAMBA, Aug 9: The District Administration Samba has struck off the names of many BPL cards holders, depriving them of many benefits thereby creating a sense of strong resentment among the poor across the district.
The economically backward people alleged that the office of TSO Vijaypur had cancelled their BPL cards, due to which hundreds of families, who are living below poverty line are not getting benefits of dozens of central schemes like free ration, PMAY, free toilet etc. They accused the concerned TSO, Tehsildar and SDM for depriving the genuine beneficiaries of these benefits.
President Municipal Council Deepak Kumar said that the BPL rations cards should be restored immediately so that the free ration being distributed these days due to COVID-19 pandemic, be provided to them. He alleged that there are a number of cases where concerned departments had issued BPL cards to such families, who don’t fall in the category and such cards should be cancelled with immediate effect.
“If department didn’t listen to the plights of the poor, a strong protest will be held against the administration,” he said.
