Forest mafia raids jungles in lockdown, large number of trees felled

Udhampur, Aug 10: While there is strict lockdown across the country forest mafia is active in four forest blocks in Ram Nagar forest range chopping forests to gather wood and other forest products.
The locals have claimed that cutting of trees was not possible without the involvement of personnel of forest department. Sanjeev Jandial, a local resident who is a councilor of Ram Nagar municipal committee said that the forest department has suspended two guards and one Ranger alleging that the main culprit is being shielded by the department.
Forest products including herbs could be taken away from the jungles by the forest mafia as these fetch high money in international market, he alleged If Forest department claimed now smuggling of wood are totally control in Ram Nagar forest range so where did that wood came from which seized yesterday in Basanthgarh area aproximatly five quintal wood by ramnager Forest department , he further alleged.
When contacted DFO Ram Nagar Range, Kuldeep confirmed the suspension of guards and Ranger.
He further said that an enquiry is going on in this matter. He said during the nationwide lockdown some officials of forest department failed to visit spots and could not properly guarded the forest due to trees were cut and wood was stolen by the miscreants.
