Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 10: Within hours of the name of senior Bharatiya Janta Party leader Manoj Sinha emerging for the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, his fake Twitter handle has gone active putting the intelligence agencies on tenterhooks.
The twitter account not only resembles the real twitter handle of the Lieutenant Governor, the fake one has been created at a “strategic time.” The police have started investigations.
As per the twitter handle, it has been created in July 2020. Sources said intelligence agencies are trying to figure out with what intention was such account created in July as till August 6, it looked largely inactive.
Interestingly the account has been active more since that very day when Manoj Sinha flew to Kashmir. Some of the tweets from the account have been provocative and try to malign the image of the government. Sources said the intelligence agencies have inputs that the account may be handled from Pakistan.
“Such satanic plots are often executed from there (Pakistan) and we are sure that this one is also from there only,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir government looks ahead to approach the Twitter India seeking closure of the fake account as it was against the interest of the nation and was trying to mislead the people.
Sources said the cyber cell of Jammu and Kashmir is actively keeping track of the handle to know its IP address in particular as investigations have been started.
“It’s a part of the cyber war being played by the enemy country on our soil,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The fake account which follows none has managed to gain over 1200 followers in less than a week.
Those following the fake account include journalists and government officials. “The twitter handle is so similar to the real handle that any one can be easily mislead,” said an official.
