BGSBU- Marching towards academic excellence
Dr Tahir Mahmood9/11/2020 1:04:18 AM

Eighteen years have passed since the establishment of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri in the Peer Panjal region by leaving a blazing trail of glorious achievements in the academic excellence in various fields like Engineering, Post Graduate courses and research in the fields of Management, Environment, Biodiversity, Biotechnology, Computer Sciences Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Urdu, Economics and several others.
The University while in its inception under the dynamic Vice-Chancellorship of Masood Choudhary, ADGP (Retd), headed towards the developmental projects of construction of infrastructure for different departments, for commencements of new followed by 2nd Vice-Chancellorship of Arshad Ahmed Hammal (former HoD of Botany, University of Jammu). The University’s growth took place at a rapid pace.
Then in 2015, the University first time got an academician and a scientist of par excellence as Vice-Chancellor having immense experience and exposure at both national and international level as the present incumbent Prof Javid Mussarat took over the charge. It was his greatness to accept this assignment. After joining BGSBU he was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Central University, Assam but he refused giving reason that I have already taken over an assignment to be the Vice Chancellor of BGSBU.
When Prof Mussarat joined in 2015 the University was closed due to the agitation of the students against an infamous Scholarship Scam allegedly committed by the then Registrar and his team. SIT was already constituted to probe the scam. Different other investigating agencies like ACB were also investigating. It was a big challenge for the new Vice-Chancellor to bring the University back on track and start academic activities. Within a very short span of time he brought the University back on track and tried his best to improve the corruption and nepotism stricken University by undertaking numerous academic and administrative reforms.
During his tenure the University achieved new milestones which are briefly mentioned below:
Achievements of BGSBU in last five years
1) Establishment of three Nursing Colleges- one each in Rajouri, Jammu & Kishtwar. (a) Mushrooms cultivation, Bio-crafting, honey bee keeping & Vermi-Compositing.
Through this training, the local people have been tremendously benefitted and are now financially sustained self employed groups

It will be marketed shortly. The J&K produces Country’s best honey and BGSBU has taken the lead to train Beekeeping farmers to commercialize this venture.
Initiatives taken by the University in conformity with the national policy & programmes
The Vice Chancellor kept the national policies in view and initiated and implemented all such Programmes which were the priorities of the nation such as Digital India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Green India, Skill India, AISHE, ARIIA, NAD, which is evident by the following campus initiatives.
(a) Digital Initiatives

It is very unfortunate that some people for their vested interests are trying to malign the prestigious institution again and the Vice Chancellor who has sincerely put his all efforts to take this University to new heights.
It is very unjust that instead of appreciating the achievements of the University and efforts of the Vice Chancellor placing mere blames and trying to dent the clean and honest Vice Chancellor.
It’s obvious they must be clearing grounds to have the next VC of their choice, who can hide their wrongdoings and get back the era of 2015 from where the Vice Chancellor took over.
This is an appeal to those people who are trying to damage this prestigious institution. For God’s sake do not make the only University of Pir Panjal a battle ground and victim of your politics but help it to emerge as an institution of excellence while forgetting all pity issues keeping in view of the historical background that the University is named after the great Sufi Saint Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah.
It is enjoined upon all the inhabitants of Peer Panjal region that it is not appropriate to defame the name of University by any means which is detrimental to the interest of this highest institution in the Peer Panjal belt and cheap politics with the head of the institution would lead to disasters with the existing system of the University.
The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor neither is incompetent nor is he an inexperienced personality. He is bringing up retired professors with much experience and professionally trained with wider outlook knowledge and wisdom.
All these people are busy for the extraordinary welfare, progress and prosperity of this great institution. For example, Retired Professor in Zoology (AMU) & ex-Registrar BGSBU Prof Iqbal Pervaiz, presently functioning as Dean Academic Affairs in BGSBU, has a crucial role. He has adopted positive, constructive and creative ways in academic development of the University. Sky is the limit for such people.
The corruption, nepotism and back door entries have no way in this time in the University which is not acceptable for so many people having their own vital interests and are saying some time that the Vice-Chancellor must be local so that they can fulfill their own desires.
It’s the responsibility of every inhabitant of Peer Panjal to come out for the support of this vital installation of the region and make it to excel further as a hub of learning.
And general public must condemn all those who are trying to make this premier and prestigious institution polluted and ought to foil their nefarious designs.
