Early Times Report

Udhampur , Oct 10: The Electronics and Mechanical Engineering wing of Indian Army has recovered ALS vehicle, which recently met with an accident and fell into 44-feet deep gorge in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Northern Command Udhampur-based Public Relation Officer (PRO), Lt Col Abhinav Navneet here on Saturday said that a team of EME Battalion of Northern Command in a professional manner executed recovery operation in the mountainous terrain of district Udhampur by successfully recovering an ALS 5/7.5 Ton which had fallen into 44-feet deep gorge.
The ill-fated vehicle was part of a convoy and had met with an accident near Udhampur.
He said that the vehicle weighing almost 7.5 Ton had fallen down from an old bridge of approximate height of 44-feet and was stuck into a restricted space between thick boulders in the river bed.
"The operation was unique due to the mountainous terrain which severely restricted the deployment of recovery vehicles. Other factors which added to the difficulty of the recovery operation were the commuters on the highway, obstacles and sliding zone in the area of recovery," said the PRO.
He added that the swift response and speedy deployment of recovery resources, detailed reconnaissance and appreciation of the situation before finally carrying out the recovery operation, speaks volumes about the professionalism of the EME personnel.
Notwithstanding the difficulties of restricted space, river bed obstacles and 85° slope, the recovery team could achieve the feat by placing recovery vehicles in tandem after detailed planning and load calculation. He said after relentless efforts and continuous deployment of the recovery team for 50 hours at a stretch, the herculean task of the recovery of the vehicle was completed.
Lt Col Navneet said that special aspect of the operation which needs to be highlighted is that no inconvenience was caused to the commuters and the recovery team also ensured no interruption in the ongoing construction work of the new bridge.
"The recovery operation was conducted with surgical precision and no untoward incident happened while the recovery operation was in progress. In the end the team of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers was able to surmount the vagaries of terrain and displayed high standards of professionalism befitting the ethos of Dhruva Warriors of Northern Command," he said.
