Govt should clear pending dues of teachers, daily wagers, contractors: UDA | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 11: United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expressed resentment against the government for not extending depositing date of first and 2nd instalment of JKPDD Amnesty Scheme. In a statement issued here today, Rajiv Mahajan, Spokesperson UDA, said that the Amnesty Scheme was announced by the Power Development Department (PDD) in 2020 to curb the power theft in the erstwhile J&K State. Mahajan said that since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic the people of all sections of the society have been economically hit due to the corona pandemic. Instead of showing sympathy with the people, the government has started imposing new laws in shape of property tax. “Unfortunately, COVID-19 outbreak has spread across the globe as well to the UT of J&K. The pandemic has caused mass disruptions to the nation's economy, its trade, industry and the lives of citizens. There is no industry or sector of the economy that has been left unaffected by this wave,” he said. Mahajan reminded the government that there are thousands of teachers, daily wagers, casual workers and contractual workers who are not getting their salaries on time, amounting to crores of rupees. Besides, there are thousands of government contractors and suppliers who are also not getting their payments for their respective government departments. “The labourers, farmers, small traders, self employed, taxi transport and auto operators, Rehri and Phari owners have been worst affected due to lengthy lockdown and no source of earnings during the last more than two months. With the poor sections having exhausted all their savings, they are finding it hard to make both ends meet while at the same time having to pay various kinds of cesses and tariffs,” Mahajan said. Mahajan appealed to the Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to look into the aforesaid matter and give directions to the authorities concerned for their pending dues first and till then the date of Amnesty Scheme should be extended till the pandemic will end.
