Accession Day
10/27/2020 12:04:22 AM
For the first time since 1947 Jammu and Kashmir observed “Accession Day” on October 26, 2020. After J&K’s transition into a Union Territory, the government declared October 26 as a holiday.
It was on this day the day last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State signed the instrument of accession with the then Governor-General of India, Lord Mountbatten, acceding his princely State with Dominion of India in 1947.
During all these years the Kashmir centric leaders who ruled Jammu and Kashmir didn’t give much importance to this day and ignored the repeated demands of the nationalist people to declare it as a holiday.
For the Kashmir centric leaders, Kashmir was an issue till August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided it into two union territories, J&K and Ladakh.
Till last year these leaders used to hold long debates upon J&K’s merger into the Union of India, as on date all their arguments and debates have become irrelevant as the Centre’s historic decision has put a lid over the rhetoric and the falsehood which these leaders used to sell.
The Accession Day is a watershed moment in the history of J&K but the Valley based politicians tried to downplay this all important day for the 70-long years. The separatists like Geelani and others till 2018 used to call for a shutdown in the Valley on this day but after noose being tightened around them they are trying to save their skins as they don’t want to end up in a jail.
J&K’s transition from a State into a Union Territory has proved to be a blessing as everything has become crystal clear and there are no confusions. J&K was an integral part of India and it will continue to remain so and no power on earth can snatch it.
The government declaring holiday on the occasion of the Accession Day is a clear message to Pakistani stooges and the so-called mainstream politicians in the Valley that their time has ended and they can no more preach secessionism and sedition.
Pakistan sponsored militants and their sympathizers cannot change the ground reality nor can they fight the Indian Army. If the militants don’t shun the path of gun then their days are numbered. If they want to live they will have to surrender. The message is clear on the Accession Day.
