Jammu, Nov 13: As campaign for the prestigious District Development Councils (DDCs) elections is picked up with filing of nomination papers, J&K Apni Party stepped up attack on leadership of ‘Gupkar Alliance’ for befooling people on emotive issues.
President of Apni Party, Syeed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, while reiterating commitment of his party to work for restoration of Article 370, questioned the role of five Members of Parliament (MPs) belonging to ‘Gupkar Alliance’.
“The biggest question is what our five MPs have done to protect Article 370?”, he asked while cornering three Lok Sabha members of NC-including former chief minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah. He also questioned the role of two Rajya Sabha members of PDP.
Bukhari has reason to target the Gupkar Alliance because MPs belonging to both PDP and NC have failed to aggressively take Article 370 issue in the Parliament. Out of total five Lok Sabha members of J&K-three belong to NC while two Lok Sabha members from Jammu province belong to BJP.
Similarly out of total four Rajya Sabha members PDP has two and one each by Congress and BJP.
Importantly within days after abrogation of Article 370, Mehbooba Mufti had given directions to its Rajya Sabha members to resign but to no avail.
Mufti had directed two Rajya Sabha members namely Fayaz Ahmed Mir and Nazir Ahmed Laway of her party to resign as members of the Upper House but the duo has reportedly refused to follow the dictates of party chief.
Taunting Gupkar Alliance leadership for announcing to contest DDCs elections, Bukhari said it took Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah 22 years to realize the right track and those who are part of the alliance for ‘Gupkar Declaration choose the right path in less than a month which is a welcome development’.
He said it was good to see leaders associated with the PAGD shunning the “emotional slogans” as such things have always swayed the youth of J&K towards wrong. “It took Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah 22 years to realise what is the right track and it took PAGD less than a month to decide what is right. I am happy over the PAGD’s decision and hail their announcement,” he said. |
