Gupkar Alliance defers release of 7th list of candidates due to infighting

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 3: Due to lack of consensus among leaders of constituents, the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) deferred its decision to release 7th list of candidates for the District Development Councils (DDCs) elections.
Although unity of PAGD, known as Gupkar Alliance, has already been shattered as alliance partners have fielded candidates against each other in many areas, top leaders of the Alliance decided to reach out a consensus before formally releasing 7th list.
According to sources, many leaders of the seven parties Alliance have announced to contest elections against each other because in many areas there is direct fight between PDP and NC in Kashmir Valley. Similarly in North Kashmir there is direct fight among Peoples’ Conference, NC and PDP so grass-root level leaders are not ready to give-up their claims.
After the announcement of the first-ever eight-phased DDCs elections in J&K, Gupkar Alliance announced to jointly contest these elections and it was decided to field joint candidates in all the constituencies. Apart from constituents of the Gupkar Alliance, Congress has entered into seat-adjustment with the seven-party alliance.
It is widely alleged that NC has already got Lion’s Share in the distribution of tickets for the first six lists issued by the Gupkar Alliance. Many PDP leaders have already aired their anger against ‘surrendering’ before the NC. While six senior PDP leaders from Jammu have already quitted party for becoming ‘B’ team of NC, one of the stalwart of PDP and close associate of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh too had resigned from the party on the same issue.
