Unfenced transformer in Rajouri’s Ward No 9 poses danger to locals
Despite repeated complaints, deptt turns blind eye

EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAJOURI, Dec 4: Notwithstanding tall claims of the government in reforming the power infrastructure in Jammu province, majority of the work has been done in a haphazard manner with least concern shown for the safety of people.
The absence of fencing around PDD transformer in Ward No 9 of MC Rajouri has been posing a grave danger to the locals, who live nearby but despite repeated complaints with the department, it has turned blind eye towards this life threatening issue.
The transformer has been placed in a street in the ward without a fence to protect people from any untoward incident. Moreover, there is a public tap installed by PHE near this transformer, which aggravates the problem and makes it more vulnerable.
The locals said that an electric transformer has been installed close to the ground, which adds to the danger during summer months when electric short-circuits are common. In recent years with population increase accompanied by massive expansion of power infrastructure, there have been a number of accidents when people have received injuries due to poor electricity infrastructure. “The transformer also occupied some space of the street by making it difficult for people to cross freely and had to pass very close to this transformer,” the local residents alleged. Locals demanded that immediate action should be taken by the dept to fence the transformer. When Early Times contacted the concerned official of PDD, he was not available for his comments.
