Jammu Police in 2020 eliminates 18 terrorists, arrests 25 OGWs, registers 616 cases in war against drugs

Jammu, Dec 30: Always leading from front, Jammu Police as usual in 2020 as well successfully carried out various anti-insurgency operations and intensified war against drugs to make society free from the menace.
In the outgoing year, the Jammu Police eliminated 18 terrorists across the region and arrested 25 over ground workers (OGWs) besides registering 616 drug related cases.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh, sharing annual round up about Jammu Police here on Wednesday said that during the year 2020, 18 terrorists were killed and eight arrested in 13 terrorists related incidents in Jammu region.
“Besides, huge quantities of arms and ammunition recovered in different terror related incidents,” said the top cop.
He added that as many as 25 OGWs were also arrested in different terror related cases in the province during the year 2020.
On War Against Drugs, the Jammu Zone Police Chief said that a total of 616 cases were registered out of which 466 cases have been challaned in the court of law and 1293 persons were arrested.
“The seizure of heroine (83 Kgs) worth Rs 300 crore in the international market is one of the largest recovery in recent times. Besides, an amount of Rs 50, 33, 295.00 and three Cheques worth Rs. 3, 19,044.00 also seized.” said Mr Singh.
He said that in the outgoing year, 415.3 kg Charas, around 84 grams heroin, 12,962.8-kg poppy straw, 322918 intoxicant capsules, brown sugar 61 grams, opium 12 kg, 3107 intoxicant syrup and 1.170 kg opium were seized from parts of the region.
On overall security scenario, the IGP said, “during the year 2020, the overall situation in Jammu remained normal both from law and order security point of view.”
However, to prevent spread of corona-virus in Jammu region, complete lockdown was imposed through the Jammu region as per direction/ guidelines of MHA Govt. of India with effect from March 24, he added and said, “police and Civil administration reached over to the Religious heads and other respectable of different communities to impress upon them to avoid religious gatherings, prayers, processions in all the religious places in view of COVID-19.”
Besides, masks and sanitizers were distributed amongst the general public/needy people to prevent hygienics, he added.
Overall law and order situation remained normal in Jammu Zone. However, a close watch was kept over the activities of Anti-National and Anti-Social Elements, Mischief mongers, criminals as well as on Social Media throughout Jammu region to thwart their nefarious designs, said the Top Cop.
Singh while sharing other details said that a total of 795 cases were registered and property worth Rs.2, 43, 77,505/- were recovered in theft cases while 511 cases of motor vehicles theft were registered and property worth Rs.2,06,61,585/- was recovered.
As many as 731 PCPG meetings and 64 CSC meetings were held during the year 2020, in all parts of Jammu province to keep a cordial relation with the general public and to redress their problems from time to time.
A total of 995 cases of Bovine smuggling were registered out of which 436 cases were challaned in the court of law.
Besides 804 vehicles seized, 10,434 animal rescues and 1223 persons were arrested in the above mentioned cases.
In Public Services Guarantee Act, during the year 2020 and current year, 8642 FIR copies were provided, Passport verifications conducted were 35365, service verification conducted was 10275, identity verification copies were 13388 and character certificates issued were 13118.
Moreover, he said that a total of 24 persons detained under PSA which includes, one OGWs, 16 criminals, four Drug Peddlers, two Terrorists and one Bovine smuggler.
On administrative matter, Mr Singh said that a total of 1842 officers/officials were promoted during the year-2020, which includes 147 ASI promoted as SI, 524 HCs promoted as ASIs. 1015 SgCts promoted at HCs and 156 Constables promoted as SgCTs.
