Doda admin hand in glove with mining, stone crusher mafia’

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 3: Alleging Doda administration is hand in glove with mining mafia, Advocate Nisar A Gattoo has alleged that the authorities are not taking any action against law violators.
Addressing a press conference, Gatto said that he has been raising various issues of public importance from time to time and has been vigorously highlighting illegal running of more than 15 stone crushers in District Doda right from Assar to Gandoh-Bhalessa particularly on the banks of River Chenab and more specifically on Doda- Babore road via Ghat where there is huge environmental degradation by illegal mining in broad day light by these stone crushers.
"The illegal stone crushers are running without seeking any permission/requisite license from licensing authority Director Geology and Mining.
When I made representation to Director Geology and Mining seeking copies of licenses the officer said that these all crushers are running without licenses which prompted me to file PIL in the High Court at Jammu wherein an order was passed on 31-10-2018 to the Deputy Commissioner, Doda to verify the present status of the functioning of the stone crushers particularly of about 12 stone crushers, if, in case they are found to be running in violation of the rules then appropriate action be initiated against them", Gattoo alleged.
He claimed that DC Doda pursuant to court orders filed an affidavit in the High Court wherein he has confirmed that 10 number of stone crushers are functioning illegally and have been closed/locked on spot and only two stone crushers i.e. M/s Aditya Stone Crusher, Village Jangalwar, Tehsil Thathri and M/s Neeru Stone Crusher, Village Bhella (Kahara), Tehsil Thathri have been found functioning as per norms.
"It is unfortunate that six stone crushers were found functioning on the River Bed of Chenab on Pul Doda-Ghat Babore and the stone crushers are running during broad day light as on today despite filing of an affidavit in the High Court that the stone crushers have been closed/locked", he said.
The owners/proprietors of the stone crushers are highly influential personalities of Doda District and have their roots up to the office of the Deputy Commissioner Doda and the closure/locking is only on papers which is substantiated from a communication No.443-47/OQ dated 24-08-2020 from Tehsildar Doda to the District Mineral Officer (Geology and Mining Department) Doda and SHO Police Station Doda wherein astonishing revelations have been made as to how the stone crushers are operating taking advantage of night time and continuing their operations/ extracting minor minerals during the said hours.
Gattoo said that Tehsildar Doda further requested to ensure the seizure of the machinery but nothing has been done on the spot as these stone crushers are operating day and night under the nose of district administration.
