MC Poonch defies stay order, carries out construction work of shops

Early Times Report
POONCH, Jan 5: Despite a stay order issued by the court of law, the Municipal Council (MC) Poonch carried out conduction work of shops inside the Bus Stand in violation of norms.
Sources told Early Times that the Municipal Council Poonch had initiated the construction work of shops in the premises of Bus Stand through auction which was objected to by the other shopkeepers who alleged that the constructions of shops are not being done properly.
"Shops are being constructed in the middle of Bus Stand in an unorganised manner creating obstacles for the other transport vehicles for their clear passage. Some shops are being constructed just adjacent to other shops hiding the face of other shops," they alleged.
Although the agitated shopkeepers got a stay order on the construction but the MC Poonch defied the same and has been continuously carrying out construction in heavy rains, they said. "Already there is shortage of space in the Bus Stand and now the haphazard construction by the MC Poonch has multiplied the problems of others. Even the nallahs were not spared by the authority and raised shops on it, which is totally against the bylaws," they added.
When Early Times contacted the EO Poonch, he feigned ignorance of any stay order from Court on the construction of shops inside Bus Stand Poonch.
On being informed about the court order, the EO again tried to distract the issue and said that the case has been settled now.
