Road width compromised on Bravi-Kotekabu, reveals RTI reply
‘Public money siphoned under PMGSY scheme’
1/12/2021 12:20:34 AM

Avinash Azad
Jammu, Jan 11: Siphoning off tax payers' money, the width of Bravi-Kote Kabu road was compromised by the executing agency Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), division Rajouri.
The width of the road is under specification however the concerned agency instead of admitting its fault replied RTI application justifying its fault. It is pertinent to mention here that in 2019 Union Ministry of Rural Development selected the J&K PMGSY for the award in the best performing category at the national level for implementation of the PMGSY.
But in the remotest area of J&K, the Rajouri division of the PMGSY reportedly compromised the size (widening) of the road constructed in Bravi-Kote Kabu villages of Kalakote tehsil of district Rajouri. According to RTI reply for above said road, PMGSY authorities furnished a very much distorted reply without mentioning width of said road and the standard width of PMGSY roads.
“Detail of Brevi to Kote Kabu Stage-II, JK12-187 was sought from the PMGSY authorities”, sources informed Early Times, adding that the authorities could not answer several questions raising suspicion over the works of said road. “Nor the PIO PMGSY, Rajouri neither first appellate authority (FAA) provided the copy of tender form invited for construction of a road. Questions regarding the width of the road also remained unanswered”, the information seeker said.
However, the PMGSY vide number EE/PMGSY/717-19, dated 18/07/2019 the PIO informed the information seeker, addressing only one question vis-à-vis prescribed with the PMGSY roads i.e. 5.5 meters to 6 meters. But unfortunately, the width of the road in question does not exceed even eight, it was like a scandal and the anti-graft agencies of J&K should take cognizance of this organized scandal.
This correspondent personally visited the site and found that the maximum width of the black-topped area of said road was not beyond 7-8 feet at many places. At several points the width of the road was around 6, it clearly shows that the concerned agency had compromised the specification of the road, apart from compromising the width of road, quality of works also compromised by the executing agency.
