Anila Singh Charak: A Poet, Satire Writer, Painter...
Jang S. Verman1/18/2021 10:38:11 PM
Poets and writers are blessed with sensitivity to peep into various situations and conditions of a spectrum of sensitive concerns of human cost and values. They have the ability to grasp the impacting concern instantly with their deep concern of being associated with the issues of nature, humans and the universe around. Their capacity and proficiency to convey their observations and reactions through their representative or deep and symbolic expressins to the masses, make them special in the order of creativity. Their expressions through their writings, either in prose, verse or otherwise, make them prove their worth as literary artists. Also, we all know that the sense of observation, grasping the ideas and the art of scripting prose or verse in emotive expressions, needs special potential in a person. Though an artist exists in everybody but there are a numbered people who prove to be sensitive poets, writers or artists.
Anila Singh Charak, a Jammu based poetess, satire writer, photograher and a painter is one such multifaceted personality of Jammu & Kashmir. Anila started writing short stories at the early age of about twelve years (during 6th or 7th class). Her father Prof. G P Singh who was then the Principal of Commerce College, Jammu & an established poet (later worked as Director Education, J&K twice, and Special Secretary, Education, J&K) supplemented her with short story and poetry books, which had an impact on her writing in the days to come. Though, she had been a student of science and did her Post Graduation in Biology but followd her artistic instincts of a writer and a poet. During her stay at hostel, while doing her higher studies in science stream, she wrote a satire focussed on the conduct of the warden of her hostel. From there onwards, she used to write satire articles on different issues. During her college days during 1975, Anila Singh Charak also participated in National and International Cricket matches.
As a poet, writer and an artist, she is concerned with the wide canvas of issues and concerns of life and human emotive values. Her concerns are sensitively associated with the themes of day to day life situations and the concerns of the contemporary life, viz. love, compassion, relations, inter- personal relations & concerns, the excesses again downtrodden and women, extra- marital relations, Nature, religion, patriotism, malpracticea in civil, religious and political life, the agony of the labour, workers and deserted people, the turbulence happening in the life of the sufferers, the dillution of relations, values and concerns, the concerns of metaphysical nature and so on.
She considers that the poet, writers and other such kind of people, in the past, have been associated wth one another and shared their happiness and grievances collectively. But with the passage of time, the world is engaged in self centred pursuits. It has lost the sensitivity of associating itself with the elements of the world around and is least bothered even in the matter of ills and tragedy happening around. She also considers the modern technologies to be responsible for hampering this sensitivity. Everyone is concerned with short- cut appoach of gaining something and has started depending on ready made information, these days. So, as a result the people have started lacking in use of will, mind and voice of their inner self.
She considers that with the changing times and technologies the things are becoming easier and dependant on ready made or convenient easy accessability to other sources to get information rather than using the inner eye or listening to the inner voice. So, the depth and sense of concern for others and outer world is getting dilluted in the contemporary world whereas the poetry and sensitive writing need the sense of concern for all.
Her publishes or under publication works include- Satire Prose: Jo Ghar Phookein Aapne (1999); Shrotiyan Ka Akaal (2018); Mask Ke Peechhey Kya Hai (Satire) (under publication).
