The Dogras shall prevail
M.M. Khajooria1/20/2021 9:27:13 PM

We are ancient people with a rich heritage. The Duggar Land, finds mention in the Rig Veda as part of Madra Kingdom which embraced the area between the Sutlej River and the Indus River. our identity could be traced to the oldest kingdoms of Champaka (Chamba) . Inscriptions. on copper plate testify to the glory of Durgara region
The Dogra supremacy in recent times commenced with the rise of Maharajah Gulab Singh as Ruler of Jammu. He consolidated the Dogra land by merging more than twelve principalities. The Dogra Army of this tiny state made history by conquering huge areas of far away Ladakh (then known as Chota Tibet) and Baltistan under the legendry General Zorawar Singh . Significantly, this miracle was brought about before the creation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir consequent to the signing of the Treaty of Amritsar-1946.-"…given to Maharajah Gulab Singh and heirs male of his body in independent possession". The sun set on the huge empire crafted by Dogras which embraced even distant areas like Chitral after the dawn of Independence of India.
Ironically independence of the country and emergence of "popular government" unleashed the era of suppression of the aspiration of Dogras, denial of their rights as citizens of Independent India and punishing the entire tribe for the real or perceived sins of Dogra Rulers. The Rulers in Srinagar and Delhi changed but the attitude towards Dogras remained unchanged .So much so that today we find ourselves at the top of the list of threatened species. Will we let this happen? This critical question stares in the face each Dogra-man, women, young and old.
I am not a Dogra because I am an Indian. It is the other way around. I am Indian because I am a Dogra. It is indeed sad that the central leaders of practically all political parties fail to understand and recognize this crucial element pertinent to Dogra identity and our unshakeable loyalty to the motherland.
They shrug off the pressure presently some what mild of the powerful engine that drives the Dogra psyche, most importantly that of Dogra youth because of sick perception that "what option do they have but to fall in line with dictates of the central government"not withstanding, adverse impact these may have on their preset and future.
The Dogras have been patiently suffering denial of their rights in what has been sold to them as "National interest". Their patience, is, however wearing thin. It is hoped that the people in power wake up and dispense justice before the pent up discontent explodes. It is imperative that the patently unjust , discriminatory and humiliating policies depriving Dogra youth ther legitimate place in fields of higher and quality technical education, the exclusive right to Union territory public services and accelerated all -round development are terminated without further loss of time. time. Mere promises and paper sanctions of projects which seldom fructify only further prick the wounds and enhance pain and anger. We, as Hill people of tribal character demand at least sixty percent reservations in jobs under the UT government as well 100% reservation in institutions of higher Education located in Jammu region.
Time has come to openly and categorically state that no one has the irrevocable power of attorney from us to determine the national interest on our behalf in whose name the Dogras have suffered and sacrificed since the dawn of independence. We are enlightened and mature enough to determine what exactly is the national interest for which we will as always be ready to make any and every sacrifice. WE are the sentinels of the Himalayas and history stands witness to the, battles we have fought and won. The Dogra army brought out the miracle of extending territories deep into Gilgit Baltistan extending upto Chitral and almost conquered Tibet. WE enjoy the glorious distinction of retaining the conquered territories while national boundaries in other theatres have shrunk and lands
Conquered even by great General Hari Singh Nalwa lost. No one should therefore make the blunder of assuming that Dogras ,their despite internal dissentions ,lack of political maturity and mature strident political leadership can be eternally subjugated or disintegrated. Now that the battle is on the cards we are determined to prevail.
