Fire damages Social Forestry's 'strip plantation' in Anantnag
2/16/2021 12:27:19 AM
Early Times Report
ANANTNAG, Feb 15: A strip plantation developed by Social Forestry Department in Mehand-Hitigam village here suffered massive damages due to a mysterious fire incident. Reports said that some miscreants put the whole area on fire a few days back and damaged the sapling that the department had planted a few years ago.
"Yes, we have received the reports about the incident. My employees informed me that some miscreants left a cigarette butt inside the closure which initiated the fire. They had left to offer prayers. We are investigating the matter and accessing the damages," Social Forestry's District head Shamma Rohi told Early Times over the phone.
A spot visit revealed that the fire incident had blackened the whole area in Suran-Hitigam. Locals alleged that 'strip plantation' was put on fire multiple times by miscreants as it wasn't being looked after by the employees of the department. "It happens all because of the negligence of employees and the department," they claimed.
