‘Robroo’- the emergent theatrical conglomeration of people of men and substance gelled by hearts and souls towards empowerment of drama – has created an impacting scene on national milieu. Meaning Face to Face , this Delhi based theater group, with Sameer Khan as its Director has exposed a larger than life platform to hundreds of theatre workers excelling their expertise at various levels of performing arts. Committed to realistic and literary productions, this group over a very short span of time since its inception has dared ultramundane efforts and listed its supremacy over all other in contention. To date now, it has organized many theatre festivals across the nation with numero uno being Vijay Suri National Theatre Festival, Jammu theatre festival, Robroo theatre festival et.al. and recently two days Young Director’s short play Festival to give space to young directors. Robroo Theatre Society strives to push its literary boundaries, be it through theatre, prose or poetry. Its focus lies in celebrating stories and literature using theatre as a medium. The purpose of the activities, be it plays, poetry recitation, an event or a theatre festival, is to showcase the rich cultural heritage to the theatre lovers. During the tough period of pandemic when everyone was at home, team Robroo was continuous working as a Covid warriors in its own way through live messages and recorded video messages for awareness It was during that time Robroo released its first micro short film on corona written by Vikram Sharma followed by first ever short film of Robroo, besides online Chausar written by Pankaj Kumar.It was a comedy short film. Meanwhile Team Robroo kept on working as corona warriors by spreading awareness through entertainment, be it chat shows on theatre or sharing experience of veterans in the field of theatre, films or radio drama through live chat shows and video bytes on Robroo Theatre’s Facebook page or on Instagram. All the work team Robroo did being confined at their homes. During the period , it was Kajal Suri who conceived Mantonama, a festival of short films based on stories of Manto. Through theatre we try to create an appreciation and awakening of our rich cultural heritage among our people, especially among our younger generation. Most importantly, in our journey as a production house, we are trying to encompass values which pertain to all classes and the masses, said Kajal Suri. Across the country, Robroo has participated in many theatre festivals with its iconic productions like ‘Heer Ranjha’-a musical dance drama, ‘Habba Khatoon’-nightingale of Kashmir (a musical play), Kirayedar, Mahatma in making(a musical dance drama dedicated to father of nation), Vani Dafan- a ghastly tribal ritual of women exploitation on Pak-Afghan border, Ardhkavya, Kaya, Janwar and Karaya- musical play(on women empowerment) The play Janwar written by Prof. Madan Mohan Sharma from Jammu was a tribute to one of the legends of J&K Sh. Vijay Suri. Besides the other plays include Mere Bhai Mere Dost written by Padamshree D.P Sinha, Abhigyan Shakuntalam, Mantoo, Tukade Tukade Dhoop, King Lear, Romeo Juliet , Rashmirathi Gagan Damama Bajayo, Snakes and Ladders based on Dogri folk tale, Mirza Sahiba, Blood Wedding, Garam Roti, Aadi Tedi Mahabharat and many others. Robroo has also participated in Bhartendu Natya Utsav- a prestigious theatre festival of Sahitya Kala Parishad wherein Vikram Sharma’s Ardhkavya was performed and Bharat Muni Natya Utsav of Delhi govt. At International Theatre Festival Amritsar, Robroo performed VaniDafan and Heer Ranjha at National Theatre Festival Jammu. Taking her thespian endeavors to decorative pinnacle on national as well as international level, Kajal Suri is daughter of soil presently at national capital and making sweeping success in novel ventures. A programme executive at All India Radio (AIR) New Delhi for drama section carries an unending string of awards and recognitions to her credit which puts her apart on the highest pedestal of woman’s acknowledgment of integrated acumen and love towards theatre. Besides impacting the national scene with her acting histrionics and directorial intellect, Kajal before moving to Delhi had already embossed her name in gold letter words on state’s theatrics by bagging seven times best actress awards. |
