DF, SS hold protest rally against rise in prices of petroleum products
2/19/2021 11:07:31 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 19: The workers of Dogra Front (DF) & Shiv Sena (SS) under the leadership of their president Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally against steep rise in prices of petroleum products in Jammu city by riding bicycles and people carrying LPG cylinders in their hands.
Addressing the protesters, Ashok Gupta said that the bicycle signifies that the high prices of petrol and diesel has forced the people to ride bicycle and abandon their 2/ 4 wheelers. The LPG cylinder prices have been hiked by Rs 50 this month and in last 3 months by Rs 125 which had dented the budget of the common man and poor people.
Gupta further stated that the central government has an excise duty of Rs 32 which pushes the price of petrol and diesel really high.
The state government has an almost equal amount of VAT on petrol and diesel which has hiked the price of petrol and diesel.
Central and state taxes make up for 60% of the retail selling price of petrol and over 54% of diesel.
Gupta said it was a collective duty to work towards lowering the prices so that the common man can get respite.
The party people who were present included Abhishek, Fauji, Sham, Prem, Bantu, Rampal, Kalu, Naresh and several others.
