Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 21: The Public Health Engineering Department Sunderbani has allegedly not cleaned a well which was dug to provide potable drinking water to the residents.
The well which is the source of drinking water for Panchayat Nallah has never been cleaned since its inception, locals claimed.
They said the PHE dug the well at village Thumba nearly 25 years ago, and since then it has never been cleaned due to which the water has become totally filthy and contaminated making it unfit for human consumption. “Despite water not being clean it is being supplied to the denizens. The well which is 200 to 250 meters deep is filled with slit and it remains uncovered,” they added.
“Water has turned totally black due to silt and filth and same water is supplied for to the area having population of around 2500-2600 souls,” the locals said.
The said that they had requested the concerned AEE PHE Sunderbani and XEn Nowshera to get the well cleaned but nothing has been done till date.
When Early Times contacted the Chief Engineer PHE Manish Bhat, he asked this correspondent to send pictures of the dug well and the locations and assured that action will be taken to clean it.
