Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 2: With the recent joint statement issued by India and Pakistan on the ceasefire agreement between their top military commanders, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has brought hope for peace along the Jammu borders in particular, that have been facing the brunt of the hostilities from the enemy country.
Pakistan finally understanding the need to adhere to the ceasefire is largely being attributed to the backchannel diplomacies of the Modi government to bring and peace and prosperity in the country, especially in Jammu region.
It is pertinent to mention that since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5 2019 in particular, the Jammu region had been bearing the brunt of Pakistani aggression in the form of ceasefire violations.
As per rough estimates, on an average, the Jammu frontiers witnessed a ceasefire violation every eight hours for several months.
The ceasefire violations affected normal life especially in the districts of Rajauri, Poonch and Kathua districts.
But now, the people living in the border districts of Jammu hope that they will be able to live freely and do their business.
“For the last so many years, our life was badly affected due to Pakistani ceasefire violations. We couldn’t even work in fields normally and the education of our children was also badly affected but now Modi Ji’s masterstroke has brought a hope of peace and prosperity. Hope Pakistan keeps up the promise this time and doesn’t backstab as usual because if that happens Modi government won’t give them another chance,” said some border residents.
As per the news reports Modi government’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and his counterpart in Islamabad initiated back-channel conversations to ensure peace along the borders.
On Feb 25, joint statement, issued in New Delhi by the defence ministry, said the director generals of military operations (DGMO) of the two armies had agreed to “strict observance of all agreements, understandings and cease firing along the Line of Control” from that midnight.
The two top commanders also “agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have a propensity to disturb the peace and lead to violence”.
Observers say Modi has emerged the as power center in entire south Asia.
