Former Director Info booked

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 2: Even as the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked former Director Department of Information and Chairman Jamaat-e-Aitqaad International, Farooq Renzu for having amassed property allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income, the development “may open Pandora’s box of troubles for the former bureaucrat.”
As per the sources, the ACB has registered a case vide FIR No 03/2021 dated 23-03-2021 in a disproportionate assets case against Renzu.
The Early Times was the only newspaper to have first reported about the raids at the assets owned by the accused.
Ironically no press statement was issued by the ACB, while “some lobbying to keep it a secret is not being ruled out.”
Sources said as per preliminary investigation, Renzu and his family, allegedly own three houses in the summer capital of Srinagar alone. He is also reportedly accused of having procured huge chunk of land near the Dachigam National Park in Kashmir as well.
Sources said he allegedly owns one house in Jawahar Nagar, another one in Nishat area and the third one near the airport, apart from other property.
Sources said the first time Renzu came under scanner for having amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income was when he was the Director Information and Omar Abdullah was the then Chief Minister.
“The national media had reported about the issue but Renzu continued to enjoy prime postings till his retirement,” said an official.
After retirement from government services, Renzu had joined Congress but had left the party.
He has been running Jamaat-e-Aitqaad International and one NGO in the name of “civil society” as well.
“Renzu who became Renzu Shah seems to be owning property of a Badshah. From where did this money come,” asked a senior official in the Civil Secretariat on the condition of anonymity.
Despite repeated attempts Renzu was not available for comments.
Meanwhile, Renzu has reacted to the reports. In a Facebook post he said:
“Any social media group, which projected one side of FIR, directly or indirectly become party of Murderous attack. Kindly understand full story clarified by same news portal RNA, which qouted ACB, FIR and Hidden FIR of Firing, Anonymous Social media and anonymous complaints of 2011 are handiwork of Firing made on me in which PSO killed, outside Sarai e Balla Dastageer sahib Shrine. The FIR stands registered and now investigation shall be for both. In case It requires NIA involvement to find out anonymous complainants who Fired ,it will solve various unidentified anonymous murderers in Kashmir even those committed inside their homes.”
