Lockdown No Solution
4/4/2021 11:42:38 PM
Second wave of COVID-19 has led to the closure of schools in Jammu and Kashmir and for time being online education is all set to return.
The virus raising its ugly head again has sent the alarm bells ringing. During the past few days many cases about students testing positive and schools turning into COVID-19 hotspots had created ripples.
Experts and medicos have been reiterating that people should come forward to get themselves vaccinated as the COVID-19 jabs only can help in developing herd immunity. The virus is there to stay with us but during the past one year we have found the ways and means to fight it out. All of us are aware of the fact that wearing masks, maintaining social distance and washing hands regularly are the basics that need to be followed in letter and spirit. But after the COVID first wave had subsided many of us had forgotten that these basics are must to keep the pestilence at bay.
To begin with the government has closed down the schools. If the cases keep on increasing other activities may also take a hit and we may have situation where lockdown will be inevitable. In order to save ourselves from witnessing the situation that we saw in 2020, we need to become alert. It’s in our own hands to prevent the situation from taking an ugly turn. If we keep on violating the COVID norms we may have to once again get confined to our homes. Getting vaccinated holds the key as it’s the first step towards developing the herd immunity. European countries that witnessed the second COVID wave fought it with vaccines and by taking other measures. We too will have to fight the present wave in the same way.
We have suffered huge losses in 2020 and if we don’t want to suffer anymore we will have to act. Notion about vaccines being unsafe is ill founded. In coming days the government is likely to throw open the vaccination drive for all and people cannot just wait and watch. If they choose to do so we can end up in yet another catastrophic situation, which we cannot afford. One more lockdown can spell a doom. Situation can be managed by slowing down the things but bringing life to a grinding halt is no solution.
