Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 7: A senior politician in Kashmir has been found to have constructed his house in alleged violation of norms in Srinagar and has been asked to demolish the same leaving many like him unnerved.
Sources said the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has served a notice to the leader from a Kashmir based mainstream political party to dismantle his house raised illegally on an embankment of Doodh Ganga nallah on Srinagar outskirts.
Sources said the notice has been served by the Irrigation and Flood Control department asking him to comply the orders or face action.
It was reliably learnt that the IFCD officials have told the said leader that it was “an official formality and that he need not worry”, but he said believed to be apprehensive about the fate of the issue and is not taking things lightly.
Sources said the said leader “looks ahead to visit New Delhi in connection with the case to get the same resolved.”
“He is likely to be accompanied by some of the party colleagues as otherwise the notice sends a bad message in public circles,” said a source.
Sources said as the news of the government notice leaked in “powerful circles” many of influential people hailing from Kashmir got worried about their respective houses “if constructed illegally.”
Sources said many of the “powerful” people including politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats in Kashmir have constructed their bungalows or even business establishments without getting requisite permission or in violation of norms.
Sources said some of the hoteliers and other commercial establishments running on the banks of river Jhelum and flood channel are also worried about the development.
The notice as served to the leader also shows the commitment of the government to ensure adherence to rule of law much in line with the idea of the Naya Kashmir as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Repeated attempts to contact the said politician couldn’t bear fruit.
