Night temp improves ahead of another spell of rain, snow in Kashmir
4/14/2021 11:31:14 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 14: The night temperature improved several degrees and settled above normal due to overcast condition in Kashmir valley, where a fresh spell of rain and snow is predicted till Sunday from tonight. However, weather turned chilly in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley during the day due to overcast conditions.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that a fresh Western Disturbance, which originated from the Arabian Sea and approached the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, is expected to hit the region late on Wednesday evening. "Under the influence of this WD, light rain and thundershowers would occur at some places in the valley and Pirpanjal range in Jammu late on Wednesday night," he said.
He said this system will further intensify and result in light to moderate rain, snow and thundershowers across the valley for four days from Thursday. "A weather warning has been issued during this time even as thunderstorms, lightening with gusty winds (30-40 km/hour) would occur at isolated places in the valley," he added.
After witnessing further improvement in the night temperature, people woke up to a chilly and cloudy Wednesday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. The skies remained cloudy throughout the day in the city, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature, which settled below normal. People could be seen wearing woolen and warm clothes, including jackets, to keep themselves warm in Srinagar. Against 8.6 degree recorded on Tuesday, the night temperature settled at 9.4 degree, which is 2 degree above normal.
The Met spokesperson said light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures would settle at around 13 degree and 9 degree, respectively.
The weather remained chilly at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, resulting in dip in the day temperature. However, the night temperature at the ski resort, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, improved 2 degree from Tuesday and settled at 2.5 degree, which is slightly above normal. "Despite chilly weather conditions, tourists were out on ski slopes, enjoying different snow related activities. A good number of tourists are visiting Gulmarg, which is still covered under several feet of snow, despite increase in number of COVID-19 cases across the country," a hotelier from Gulmarg told UNI over the phone.
The mercury during night at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, also improved about 2 degree from Tuesday and settled at 4.2 degree, which is over a degree above normal. But, the maximum temperature in the resort dipped due to overcast conditions.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag improved and settled at 7.8 degree, 7 degree and 7.5 degree, respectively.
