KVK Reasi promotes organic turmeric cultivation in monkeys affected areas

JAMMU, Sept 9: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi is promoting the organic turmeric cultivation in the monkeys affected areas of Reasi district so that the income of the farmers can be enhanced. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi scientists are technically guiding and motivating the farmers for the commercial cultivation of organic turmeric so that chemicals free turmeric can be produced.
The KVK scientists have provided the necessary technical know-how on organic turmeric along with the use of Neem Oil, Neem Cake, organic fungicides etc to the farmers of the area amid the pandemic. Besides it, farmers have been trained on organic formulations by utilizing the local resources at a cheap rate. Farmers’ knowledge on vermin-composting technology, cow urine, Panchgavya, beejamrit, fermented butter milk preparation etc. have been upgraded to reduce the cost of cultivation.
According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal farmers of some areas of the district face serious threats because of monkeys menace as they spoil their many crops and thus directly affecting their income. According to him organic turmeric cultivation has immense potential in the area and this crop is not affected by the monkeys. He added that farmers should grow organic turmeric of commercial level so that their income and employment can be enhanced. He narrated that organic turmeric has tremendous potential in Reasi district as the pilgrims across the nation visit Katra and there are numerous hotels and restaurants. According to him organic turmeric is helpful to improve the health status of human beings by improving the immunity of the body.
