World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 observed in District Doda

JAMMU, Sept 11: As part of mass awareness Department of Health and Family Welfare Doda on Friday observed, “World Suicide Prevention Day” across District Doda. In this connection, the main awareness programme was held at ANMT School Doda which was organized by District NCD Cell, CMO Office Doda.
The awareness programme was held under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer Doda and on the directions of worthy Director Health Services Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Medical Officer Doda Dr Mohammad Yaqoob Mir highlight the importance of this day and said that World Suicide and Prevention Day is observed on 10th September every year with the aim to highlight various way by which suicide can be prevented through different activities.
District Mental & Health Programme Officer Doda, Dr Zia Showket Mughal who was the resource person on the occasion also delivered lecture on this day and its aspects. Dr Zia said that suicide is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 700,000 people die by suicide every year. It is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-19-years age group.
District Finance & Logistic Consultant NCD Doda Mohammad Faheem Butt in his speech said that the day is commemorated every year with the aim of creating awareness among people to avoid committing suicide and prevent it any cost.
He appealed all the participants to create mass awareness at community level and motivate people to come out of problems and cooperate with this complicated issue so that previous lives can be saved.
