10/2/2021 11:54:42 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

AKHNOOR, Oct 2: All India Jat Mahasabha (AIJMS) today sought OBC status for Jats living in J&K and urged the community to fight for the cause in one voice.
The issue was raised by Ch Manmohan Singh Ex-Mayor JMC, while chairing a meeting of AIJMS held at Kuldeep Eye Care Centre, Akhnoor arranged by Kuldeep Kour, President AIJMS Akhnoor.
The meeting was attended by Mahasabha’s office bearers of Tehsil Akhnoor, Jourian and Khour besides several prominent people of the Jat community and others.
At the outset of the meeting, the participants observed two minutes of silence in the memory of Vijay Choudhary (Councillor) and wife of Manmohan Chodhary.
The speakers in the meeting raised various issues of the community including the demand for OBC status for the community.
They said that after abrogation of Article 370, all the laws which are valid across the country should also be implemented in J&K and under this principle the Jats are eligible for OBC status.
Reiterating demand for OBC status, Ch Manmohan Singh warned the administration of massive agitation in Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and give the nod to OBC status to Jats in Jammu and Kashmir as the file regarding the case is already lying in the Civil Secretariat.
The participants also raised the issue of Jat Community Hall at Akhnoor. Ch Manmohan Singh gave time of three months to Tehsil Presidents and Vice President to identify land for the purpose which he said, will be finalized by the community members.
He said that the community is ready to offer monetary as well as moral support to complete the Hall as soon as possible.
Besides, Pardeep Choudhary was appointed as Youth President AIJMS Khour through voice vote.
