After facing humiliation, 50 panchs, sarpanchs tender resignation in Ramban

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 9: After feeling humiliated and ignored more than 50 panchs and sarpanchs have tendered their resignations in Banihal and Ramsoo blocks in Ramban district.
According to these public representatives they have been turned into “puppets without any power.” “Promises that were made to us have not been fulfilled. Claims about empowering us to do works of the people have proved to be a hoax. Contractors are more powerful than us,” they said.
Panchs and Sarpanchs were elected so that they could carry forward the development works but after tendering their resignation, they blamed the administration for not cooperating with them. “We were unable to face the people as we were being accused of being liars. No funds were provided to us, nor were we taken into confidence,” they said. “We resigned after we were sidelined by the officials. We were not even allowed to meet the union ministers, who had come to take stock of the situation.”
They said, “We are not allowed to participate in the tendering process, nor are we taken into confidence before any decision is taken. We have been turned into toothless people.”
After these public representatives tendered their resignation, the district administration held a meeting with them but it didn’t yield any result. The officials would meet them again on Monday.
