Amid killings, Tourism Deptt organises dancing night
Insensitive, inhuman attitude of Babus exposed; Suggestions of junior officers to cancel event to respect sentiments rejected by higher-ups

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 9: While the whole nation, in one voice, is mourning the ghastly terror incidents of Kashmir Valley which claimed the lives of five innocent persons within 72 hours, the Jammu and Tourism Department has organized Garba and Dandiya night to provide the opportunity to the people to dance on different tunes.
At a time when members of five families are wailing over gruesome killings of their dear ones, Tourism Department has brazenly organized a dancing night to rub salts on the wounds of terror victims.
Shockingly during this dancing night, not even a single word was uttered for those who lost their lives in the repeated terror attacks.
Highly placed sources said that some junior officers of different departments have asked ‘arrogant Babus’ to cancel this event due to prevailing anger and pain in Jammu after selective killings in Kashmir Valley but the arrogant Babus say “Show Must Go On”.
Sources said that it was all due economic interests of some influential people that event was not cancelled despite knowing the fact that residents of Jammu, irrespective of their party affiliations, are mourning killings of innocent people by terrorists.
Later in the evening, an official handout was issued in which it was clearly mentioned that the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with District Administration Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Regional Outreach Bureau today organized Garba and Dandiya Night in association with All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association here at Gulshan Ground from 5:00 P.M onwards.
It was for the first time that Garba and Dandiya Night was organized in Jammu as part of Navratra Celebrations being held across the Division from 7th to15th October, 2021.
Synonymous with reverence, passion and enthusiasm, Navratri in Gujarat may have earned the title of being one of the longest dance festivals in the world but this event at Jammu showcased the rich cultural heritage of the city which is full of colours and truly represents #Amazing Jammu. Traditional costume, food, music and dance were the part of the festivity with colorful Dandiya and Garba performers dancing on traditional music.
The main highlight of the program was the folk dance “dandaras” where performers carry sticks and strike them. Dandaras is an adaptation of the dandiya raas. The other performances included Dogri Dance, Kud Dance etc. The Gulshan ground in Jammu City turned into a playground of beautiful colours, twinkling lights and music perfectly complemented by ethnic food.
