Encounter breaks out in Shopian

SRINAGAR, Oct 11: Encounter has started between militants and government forces in Tulran area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
Reports said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 34RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Tulran.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
A senior police officer also confirmed about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.
As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
Pertinently this is third Encounter in Valley since last 24 hrs, two militants were killed one each from Anantnag and Bandipora.
Early this morning, a militant was killed while a policeman suffered injuries in an encounter at Khagund Verinag in Anantnag.
A top police officer said that on a specific information police went to pick up an OGW. As soon as police party approached towards suspected spot, the hiding militant fired upon the police party leading to an encounter.
The police officer further said that during the exchange of firing, one unidentified militant was killed, while as a cop also received bullet wound. He was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
A pistol and a grenade was recovered from the possession of slain militant.
In another encounter, Security Forces killed a militant in Bandipora. IGP Kashmir said that the slain militant was affiliated with LeT and responsible for civilian killings at Shahgund Bandipora.
