Irony! Locals weep for jobs; J&K Govt signs MoUs with outsiders
1/21/2022 11:22:53 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 21: As the local men are weeping to get jobs, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is busy signing Memorandums of Understanding with the outsiders to get in more investments in the Union Territory. Chairperson of District Development Council Kishtwar has been sitting on a dharana in the Kishtwar town against the discrimination being faced by the locals. “There are many power projects in Kishtwar and the companies constructing these projects are not employing the locals. If these projects cannot provide employment to natives then why do we need them,” she said.
A job seeker said, “Everyday I visit the office of the construction company with a plea to provide me with a job. But return disappointed. I am jobless and have a family to feed. I am ready to do any work but it seems they don’t want to employ locals.” The DDC chairperson said, “Lot of people come to my office daily and complain about these companies not being of any help to them. I have been sitting on dharna for the last 3-days but no one from the administration has come to ask me why I am protesting. The administration is least bothered about the people and their problems.” Another public representative sitting at dharna along with the chairperson said, “The government is not doing anything for natives. Outsiders are calling the shots. Kishtwar district has turned into a goldmine for these outside companies. We face power cuts from 16 to 18 hours in a day, while the electricity generated from our district is supplied to other areas.”
