JAMMU, Jan 23: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway has turned into a goldmine for the companies who are entrusted with the task of carrying out the repairs or widening of the highway.
The companies are carrying out the work at a snail’s pace and there is no accountability for the work being carried out by them. The widening of the road has already missed many deadlines and the authorities revise the same from time to time. Although, the people at helm claim that the highway is through even during the inclement weather the situation on the ground is totally contrary. The highway gets closed as soon as there are rains at any location. The closure of the highway leads to problems for the commuters as well as transporters.
The people who are stranded blame that they get the food and the other things at exorbitant rates and said that the administration does not take any action against the profiteers. They said their problems get compounded as and when they get stranded adding that accountability has gone for a huge toss. |
