Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai: Lal Chowk gets house-full bookings for August 5 celebrations
8/3/2022 11:41:46 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 3: The historic Lal Chowk or Ghanta Ghar, which till a few years ago used to be a hub of anti-national protests, has made “house-full” bookings for the August 5 celebrations from morning till late in the evening in honor of the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir on this day in 2019.
Official sources said the administration has received requests from numerous quarters including news channels, sports groups and musical bands that they want to host colorful events at the busy square on the big day.
The sources said atleast half a dozen TV channels have sought permission to host their live programs at the busy marketplace on the eventful day adding that the administration was looking into the possibility of giving the permission.
Sources said a group of cultural bands have also sought permission to hold their colorful events.
The sources said the celebrations would start with hoisting of the tricolor at the clock tower on the Ghanta Ghar followed by daylong celebrations.
“There’s also a proposal to give a festive look to the Lal Chowk for the celebrations,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
He said the proposals were numerous but that security was a major issue to put restrictions on the number of events to be held. “We want everyone to participate in the celebrations but security of every individual is our first priority,” the official added.
On August 1, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that a new era of development began in J&K after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
“Its journey in the last two to three years is a testimony to the fact that J&K, forgetting its history, is on its way forward to be part of the national mainstream and aspires to script a new revolutionary growth story. The youth of J&K are looking up to start-ups and not AK-47s. J&K is emerging as a performer in various sectors, including the start-ups,” he said.
Sinha stated this in an interview with a private news channel, while responding to a pointed query as to how far he could deliver to J&K and meet expectations of bringing a revolutionary turnaround there following the developments of August 5, 2019, using his acumen and experience as a sagacious and mature politician.
