Awareness Programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao organised at GMHSS

POONCH, Sept 20: Government Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian organised an Awareness Program and Rally on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to intensify the save girl child campaign and promote it as a watchword slogan for improving child sex ratio by engaging the community and to defy age old bias against girls.
The rally comprising around 150 girls was flagged off by the School Principal Anwer Khan and Retired Zonal Education Planning Officer Siraj Begum, in the presence of Head Master High School Ajote Poonch Kouser Parveen.
Speaking on the occasion, Anwar Khan said that such awareness programmes are being organised to sensitize people about dwindling child sex ratio and its related consequences.
The Chief Guest, the first Graduate women of the Sawjian Mandi area, Siraj Begum said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is an endeavour to end gender bias in the society and truly empower the girls.
Addressing the gathering, the Guest of Honour Kousar Parveen, said empowerment of women is only possible by community solidarity with emphasis on change in the mindset.
Elucidating the role of education in empowering the girl, Special Guest Tehmina Reshi appealed to the parents to educate the Girls.
Rifat Aslam, the other special guest, said that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme envisages multipronged approach by providing quality Health and Education to girl children, to bring about an attitudinal change in the society and focus on eradication of infanticide.
Earlier, Qamer un Nissa Bhatti, welcomed the guests and highlighted the salient features of Beti bachao beti padhao scheme.
Momentos were presented to the guests. Others who spoke included Zainab Kouser, Tabish Shah, Sumera Akhter, Sania Banday, Saleem Rishi and Arif Malik.
