GLDM GDC Hiranagar organizes online lecture series

HIRANAGAR, Nov 19: Department of Music Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Govt. Degree College Hiranagar organised 24th online lecture series of Manthan. Manthan is an online lecture series on the subject of music spanning from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The lecture series began in the month of June 2022 and is held every Saturday of every week. The lectures are organised under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav @75. The topic of today's lecture was The Folk Arts of Nagaland. The resource person for the lecture was Supongsangala Jamir from Nagaland and the position of the Chief Guest was occupied by Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of the College. Dr. Pragya Khanna in her address highly appreciated the idea of the series of lectures pertaining to the subject of music every week.
The resource person for the lecture Supongsangala Jamir is a well known musician and Founder of Refiners Choir, Nagaland. She has performed in many prestigious festivals in India. She is the recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan Puraskar given by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi. She in his lecture explained in detail about the folk art forms of Nagaland. She also said that the impact of western culture is increasing day by day in Nagaland. She also talked on Government policies and about the Instrument makers of Nagaland. She also elaborated the problems faced by the artists in Nagaland.
The programme began with a welcome address presented by Dr. Bharat Bhushan Head, Department of Music of the college. He also said that after the completion of the series a compiled book of all the proceedings and articles from all the lectures will be published. The work and initiative would be a contribution to the knowledge and literature in the field of music which would further strengthen the institution at large. The project is encouraged and inspired by the worthy Principal of the college Dr. Pragya Khanna.
The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views about the series. Those who attended the lecture were Dr. Swar Vandana Sharama & Prof. Krishan Kanta Sharma from Varanasi, Prof Lokesh Joshi from Punjab, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra and Prof. Yash Kumar from GCW Udhampur College, Dr. Nishtha Sharma from Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Prof. Sujat Khan, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Manjot Singh, Prof. Neha Bhagat,Dr Usha Rani, Dr Jyoti Rani, Dr. Arun Kumar, Vikram Jamwal,Dr. Mukesh and Dr. Ravinder Sing Kumar from Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar. At the end of the lecture Dr. Arun Kumar, Head, Department of Sociology of the college presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme was organised together with Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports in consultation and support of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college.
