Medical Education in Jammu, Kashmir has gained new direction and momentum under Modi govt: Balbir
4/8/2026 9:56:27 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 8: Highlighting the unprecedented development in the field of medical education in Jammu & Kashmir, BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman, Balbir Ram Rattan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has given a new direction and momentum to healthcare and medical education. He said that the establishment of medical colleges at the district level in recent years has not only opened new avenues for local youth but has also strengthened healthcare services at the grassroots level.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that earlier, medical education was confined to limited resources, but today, new medical colleges have been established in several districts of Jammu & Kashmir. This has provided students in the region with the opportunity to access quality medical education within their own Union Territory. He added that this transformation is the result of the Modi government's visionary policies and commitment to public welfare.
He particularly described the 54 percent increase in MBBS seats as a historic achievement. He said that the total number of MBBS seats has now risen from 1,085 to 1,676. This increase not only reflects the expansion of medical education but also empowers the future of the region's youth.
Similarly, there has been a 33 percent increase in postgraduate (PG) seats, with an addition of around 202 seats.
Balbir said that this rise in PG seats will lead to an increase in the number of specialist doctors, thereby further strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of Jammu & Kashmir.
Balbir Ram Rattan further said that the objective of the Modi government is not merely to expand infrastructure but to build a strong and self-reliant healthcare system. He emphasized that the expansion of medical colleges will not only address the shortage of doctors but also ensure better and more accessible healthcare services for the general public.
He expressed confidence that this development journey will continue with the same momentum and that Jammu Kashmir will establish itself among the leading centres of medical education in the country.
