| Major killed in accidental explosion | | | JAMMU: In an unusual incident, an army major was killed Saturday in an accidental handgrenade explosion near Kangan in Ganderbal area of Kashmir.
A grenade slipped from the hands of Maj Joginder Shekhawat of 24 Rashtriya Rifles while he and some army jawans were combing forests at Mahlesh Bahak in Kangan area.As the grenade fell on the ground, it went off, resulting in the instant death of the army officer, army spokesperson Lt Col JS Brar said.
"An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and the investigations are on," he added.
A police team later evacuated the body of the Major to hospital.In a similar incident, a CRPF jawan was seriously wounded when an explosive device fell from his hands and exploded on the road at Qazigund in Anantnag, police sources said.The jawan was on patrol duty, the sources added, saying he was admitted to hospital.
