Mishap averted at airport, flight cancelled | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 9: A possible air mishap was today averted with the timely detection of smoke by flight engineers of IC-822 from the aircraft's wheels. There were 146 passengers on board the flight. Official sources said just before take off by the Delhi-bound flight IC-822 of the national carrier, the flight engineers saw thick smoke emanating from near the wheels. All the passengers were then safely evacuated from the flight to prevent any loss of life, the sources added. "A large number of Haj pilgrims, who were on board the flight, were shifted to private hotels after the flight was cancelled," sources said. However, the Air India shifted only a few passengers to the hotels as some of the others alleged that the authorities provided lodging facility to those travelers, who have full fair tickets. When contacted, the airport authorities confirmed the incident and said the smoke had emanated due to some technical snag in the hydraulic pipe .All the passengers were, however, safe, the sources added. |
