Reiteration of statement by CM on accession draws flak

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 9: The reiteration of the statement by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah regarding the accession which he had made in State Assembly recently while talking to reporters here yesterday on the occasion of reopening of move offices in Winter Capital has drawn a flak.
The nationalist forces in Jammu while reacting to the statement have termed it total political immaturity on the part of Abdullah. “This is nothing but political arrogance on the part of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah'', said VHP state president Dr Rama Kant Dubey.
Taking a serious exception to utterances made by the Chief Minister he said, after setting Kashmir ablaze the NC leadership wants to create trouble in Jammu also, otherwise there is no fun of challenging accession. It shows that Chief Minister is trying to score points by saying that he stands by his statement given in the Assembly and the people who are opposing it now have thumped the desks in the House, he added.
Dr Dubey said the instrument of accession was signed between then ruler of the state Maharaja Hari Singh and then Governor General of India Lord Montbettan and later ratified by Constituent Assembly and State Legislature also. Even the British Government had made it clear to all the princely states either join India or Pakistan, as British Government will not accord recognition to any princely state as Independent. So the Mahraja joined India and there is no challenge to the same, he added.
He said the Chief Minister is unnecessarily trying to create controversy to please the separatists in the Valley and gain the lost political ground in Kashmir. But he can't befool the people by raking up controversies, he added.
Taking a dig at the reiteration of statement of the Chief Minister, the spokesman of Jammu Sangarsh Samiti, Ravinder Raina said it all is being done on the behest of UPA led Congress at Centre. The Congress was responsible for present turmoil in Kashmir and displacement of lakhs of Hindus and other nationalist forces from Valley and upper reaches of Jammu region, he added.
The party made alliances with the people in J&K whenever it suited its interests. For them PDP and NC are same and they will leave one and join another if such an arrangement proves politically more beneficial for the party, he added.
Raina said that the utterances are very serious and one should not react to them just to score political points. ``The Chief Minister's statement tantamount to violation of the Constitution on whose name he has taken oath of office and secrecy'' he added.
The statement is a challenge to national unity and integrity and it is unfortunate that Congress is maintaining a stoic silence over it, Said Anil Parihar, senior leader of National Panthers Party.
He said the reiteration of statement by Chief Minister shows his political immaturity. “One does not know whom he wants to please by such utterances as Kashmir is already burning and the Chief Minister's utterances are slated to annoy Jammuites too, he added.
BJP, which has already taken the Chief Minister to task for making such utterances termed the statement a political blackmail. The BJP did not absolve the Congress and alleged that whatever Omar Abdullah was saying was on the behest of Congress which is at his back.
The BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas said that it indicates that Congress has also agreed with Omar Abdullah's statement which will have serious repercussions and his party will go for nation-wide agitation.
Manhas also ridiculed the statement of Chief Minister that MLAs of two parties had thumped desks in Assembly while he made the statement. ``This is a bundle of lie'', he added.
Meanwhile according to sources the differences within Congress have also surfaced over the statement of Mr Abdullah and a section of the Party from the state has apprised the Party High Command of the same.
The sources said that there is a strong feeling among the Congress that in case the Chief Minister continues his stand it will surely weaken the Congress in Jammu region which is the main support base of the Party in the state.
