Omar reiterates Pak 'role' in Kashmir, says satisfied with Obama visit | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 9: In what can be seen as toeing hardline mainstream politics over Kashmir issue, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reiterated that Pakistan has a role in Jammu and Kashmir and it cannot be negated by any amount of criticism. Apparently not the one to be bothered by unabated criticism and strong reactions over his remarks on Accession of state with India, the Chief Minister today said there is no politics about what he says and that he firmly believes that Pakistan has a 'role' in resolution of Kashmir issue which will pave way for defusing the crisis in Kashmir. Omar said this while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function in connection with Kissan Mela in Jammu. He expressed his satisfaction over the four-day India visit of the US president Barack Obama and the statements he made in the Parliament as well the joint statements made by the two countries. " The statements were very positive ….these have certainly laid the strong foundation in the bilateral ties that will take the healthy relationships forward", Omar said. However, he observed in the same breath that he has no concern with what Obama said about Pakistan. "It is not a new thing ….but Pakistan's internal situation does concern us ….", Omar said. On a sarcastic note, however, the Chief Minister said when the interlocutors appointed by Centre talked about Pakistan role in dialogue it evoked a strong reaction but when Obama says the similar thing, this is being welcomed….. Omar said it on the opening day of his Durbar in Jammu that he would not like to make any comment on Obama's visit until it concluded. Today, however, he observed Obama's visit was a success in totality and he was quite satisfied with its all aspects. It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had invited Omar to the private dinner he hosted Sunday night for the Obamas. The dinner was attended among others by central ministers, leaders of business, industry and actors and journalists. The chief minister, however, voiced concern over the internal situation in Pakistan, though he did not elaborate on it. "We all know what role Pakistan is playing in Kashmir," he said, but did not elaborate. Ironically, India has been accusing Pakistan of fomenting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir . and officials claim. And contrary to what Omar says, . former chief minister and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah has spoken of it a number of times. Only recently, Farooq said: "Our neighbour has always been fishing in troubled waters. First it started with guns, blasts and bombs…….. They threw the Kashmiri Pandits out by ethnic cleansing. They did not succeed in taking Kashmir to Pakistan... But be sure, none of their plans will succeed." |
