Highway reopened for traffic
2/26/2011 12:03:39 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU Feb 25: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was reopened for traffic today after remaining closed for a day due to heavy snowfall and rains.
“The highway was reopened for traffic around 0800 hours after snow was cleared,” traffic officials said.
However, only light and medium vehicles will be allowed to ply on the highway, which connects Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
Snowfall round the Jawahar Tunnel and higher reaches of Pir Panjal mountain range has rendered the highway slippery following which the traffic was stopped.
Over 270 vehicles, which were stranded on the highway, have been cleared, they said, adding men and machines of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had cleared the snow blockades at Jawahar tunnel
