Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 25: A misleading phone call today became the reason of a daylight theft in a jewellery shop in sector B of Sainik Colony here.
Police sources said Rajesh Anand, owner of Sai Jewellers, was working in his shop in sector B of Sainik Colony when he received a phone call on his landline number in the afternoon.
The caller told him that one Salotra, who owned a kiryana shop in his neighbourhood, had sustained critically injuries in a road accident and was struggling for life in the GMC hospital.
He requested Anand to drop the message at the kiryana shop so that his life was saved.
When the jeweller went to the kiryana shop, he was surprised to find Salotra there. After giving him a detailed account of the misleading phone call when he returned to his shop, he found that the gold jewellery bag kept in the wooden almirah had been stolen.
Quoting Anand, sources said the bag contained gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakhs.
Realising that he had been befooled by the caller, he immediately approached the concerned police station. He told police that few minutes before the call, a youth, who was
accompanied by a motorcyclist, had come to his shop and selected a pair of earrings. After giving an advance of Rs 300, he had told Anand to keep the earrings for him till he returned with the balance amount of Rs 3,000.It was suspected that the burglary was committed by the two youth who had come to the shop to find out where the jewellery was kept by Anand.Police had registered a case in this connection.
