NC, PDP get united to raise objection over BJP remarks on 'nationalism'
3/15/2011 12:49:45 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 14:
Bickering between Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Kashmir based legislators once more surfaced today in the ongoing Budget session of the State Legislative Assembly today on the issue of ration which ultimately narrowed down the question of who is ‘patriotic and nationalist’ and who is not?
While taking part in the discussion on Demands for Grants for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department, the BJP stalwart raised objections to the remarks of Nazir Gurezi, who earlier had said that Kashmir valley experiences food grain shortage due to annual Amarnath Yatra.
A war of words between BJP stalwart Ashok Khajuria and National Conference legislator Nazir Gurezi soon erupted in the House.
“Why you people get disturbed over the arrival of Amarnath Yatris… What really do you want?..... For the last sixty years you are looting patriotic people… Don’t forget NC is a product of Muslim Conference,” Ashok Khajuria said pointing towards Gurezi
On listening Khajuria’s remark, Nazir Gurezi up on his feet shouted and urged the Chair to intervene.
“Yeh Hamseha Hindu-Muslim Ki Baat Karte Hain (He always raises Hindu-Muslim issue).” Gurezi said
Choudhary Ramzan, who was presiding the proceedings of the House, asked the members to refrain from raising such issues.
However, after a while when MLA Langate Engineer Rashid’s turn came to speak on CAPD grants, his comments over the issue plunge the House into pandemonium.
“Nazir Saheb Ne Jo Kaha Theek Kaha…. Agar NC Wale Hindustani Nahin to Phir Koun Hai.(Mr Nazir is right…. If NC is not patriotic then who else is?)
PDP leader Basharat Bukhari too joined the heated debate and said, “We don’t need any body’s certificate for patriotism.”
In the meantime, BJP, Panthers and lone JSM legislator, angered over Kashmir based MLAs’ remarks, on their feet began to shout loudly and in the din nothing was audible.
Sensing trouble soon Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone occupied the Chair and reprimanded the members for their behavior and warned them he would not bear such a conduct of theirs in future.
“Don’t give message to the people that House is divided… You all should maintain unity of the House… If any body would raise communal issues again in the House, I will not tolerate.” Speaker said
